### Reservation Protocols & Entry Guidelines The Calico Museum is widely recognized as the world's most exhaustive repository of Indian textiles, but it operates as a preservation trust rather than a conventional tourist attraction. To protect light-sensitive historic natural dyes from humidity and heat: * **Strict reservation quotas:** Only thirty visitors are admitted per day on a single morning tour. Reservations must be booked via their official portal on the first calendar day of the preceding month. * **No photography or mobile devices:** All bags, phones, cameras, and writing pens must be checked into locker vaults at the outer gatehouse. * **Quiet observation:** The tour moves through historic wooden *chawk* courtyards and climate-stabilised chambers in single file. ### Key Masterpieces to Focus On Because the tour covers dense material across two hours, keep your attention focused on three standout sections: 1. **The Pichwai Gallery:** Enormous devotional cotton hangings painted in pigment and gold leaf for the Shrinathji shrine at Nathdwara, depicting monsoon skies and lotus ponds. 2. **Double-Ikat Patan Patola:** Silk saris where both the warp and weft were tie-dyed prior to weaving so that the geometric floral patterns emerge identically on both sides. 3. **Mughal Imperial Tents:** Block-printed and embroidered chintz panels commissioned by royal courts in Golconda and Burhanpur during the 17th century.
